About NamWater
NamWater was registered as a company on 9 December 1997 and supplies water in bulk to customers in all 14 regions of Namibia.
The Establishment of NamWater
The Namibia Water Corporation Ltd (NamWater) was officially registered as a company on 9 December 1997 and started operations on 1 April 1998. It was established by an Act of Parliament, the Namibia Water Corporation Act (Act 12 of 1997).
The Head Office is at 176 Iscor Street, Northern Industrial Area, Windhoek. The company has offices and water schemes in all 14 political regions of the country.
NamWater is a commercialised water utility. It is not privatised. The Government of the Republic of Namibia is the sole shareholder and is represented by the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, who appoints the Board of Directors. The Board ensures that NamWater uses Namibia's scarce water resources in the best interests of the country and its people.
What We Do
NamWater supplies water in bulk to industries, government institutions, municipalities, local authorities, commercial entities such as mines, and to the Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation Coordination in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform. The Directorate in turn supplies water to rural communities.
The company strives to recover the full cost of water supply and is committed to giving its customers a reliable source of quality water at affordable rates.
Under Article 100 of the Namibian Constitution, land, water and natural resources belong to the State. The Government is the custodian of these resources and remains responsible for the overall management of national water resources, so the incorporation of NamWater does not mean the Government loses control of the water sector.
